SUPAUL, Jan. 25 -- Supaul police on Thursday arrested a wanted criminal carrying a bounty of Rs.25,000 from Kanpur. Confirming the arrest, Supaul SP Sarath RS said accused Lalit Kumar Mehta, a resident of Triveniganj, was wanted in over a dozen serious criminal cases and had been evading arrest for the past one year. Explaining his modus operandi, the SP said Mehta would flee to other states after committing crimes and lay low for some time to avoid detection. A special police team, constituted under SDPO Bibhash Kumar, successfully tracked and arrested him from a rural area of Kanpur, where he was living under a concealed identity. The technical cell of the Supaul STF also played a crucial role in the operation. According to police records, in September 2024, Mehta allegedly shot at a man and looted cash, a mobile phone and other documents.
