PATNA, Sept. 20 -- A biography of the late singer-actor Kishore Kumar, Kishore Kumar: The Ultimate Biography, which received the National Film Award for Best Book on Cinema has come under challenge at the Patna high court a couple of years after the honour, with a Patna-based Hindi writer questioning whether a personal life story meets the official criteria for the category. Responding to the petition, the Patna High Court has directed the Union ministry of information and broadcasting (I&B) ministry to explain the selection. Justice Ajit Kumar, hearing a civil writ petition on Thursday, issued notices to the Centre, the NFDC and related parties. He directed them to file a specific counter-affidavit addressing the grievances and listed the matter for October 8. The petition has been filed by Anant Prasad Sinha, a Patna-based Hindi writer and literary critic who publishes under the name Anant. He seeks to quash the award given to Kishore Kumar: The Ultimate Biography, authored by Anirudha Bhattacharjee and Parthiv Dhar and published by HarperCollins India. The book received the Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus) and a cash prize of Rs.1 lakh under the Best Book on Cinema category at the 70th National Film Awards in August 2024. Sinha contends that the selection violated the official guidelines issued by the ministry.
