PATNA, July 24 -- More than a dozen FIRs were registered against 30 named persons, including CPI-ML (liberation) MLA from Paliganj Sandeep Sourabh, CPI-ML (Liberation) MLC Shashi Yadav and Patna University Student's Union (PUSU) leader Shantanu Shekhar and over hundreds of unidentified agitators, at three police stations-Sachvalaya, Kotwali and Gandhi Maidan-in connection with vandalism, stone pelting, assault on police personnel and the disruption of law and order during the AISA (All India Students' Association) organised protest march against the alleged NEET paper leak , police said on Thursday. Officials confirmed that police filed multiple cases under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act (PDPP Act). The registered FIRs invoke several sections of the BNS, including Section 223(b) for disobedience of public orders, Section 221 for obstruction of public servants, Section 132 for assault or criminal force against officials, Section 121(1) (unlawful assembly), Sections 189(3), 190, 191(2), 191(3) and 192 dealing with unlawful assembly, rioting and violence, Sections 324(5), 109(1), 125 and 3(5) relating to common intention, and Section 61(2) pertaining to criminal conspiracy. Shekhar, who was picked up from his residence at 2 am on Thursday, is among the 57 agitators arrested so far after the Wednesday's protest. Officials said they were collecting details of those arrested and identified troublemakers from their respective colleges, and they will initiate the process of enrolment cancellation and property attachment against those who are absconding. Police conducted raids at several identified locations, such as Boring Road, Kadamkuan, Gandhi Maidan, Buddha Colony, and Bahadurpur, to apprehend the accused. Simultaneously, police said, the cyber wing is thoroughly investigating the accounts of YouTubers and social media content creators to uncover the conspiracy behind the protest. The agitators reportedly breached security barricades, and the protest subsequently turned violent, with heavy stone-pelting reported in key areas like JP Roundabout, Dakbungalow Crossing, Bailey Road, and the high-security prohibited area. "At least 117 trouble makers have been identified based on CCTV footage and videos shared on social media. Police circulated their pictures on social media and asked the public for help in apprehending them. Police are in the process of identifying more accused using CCTV footage, local videos, and social media clips. Investigators are examining many video clips to determine whether the unrest was premeditated," said the official, adding that the investigation into the violence was progressing and further legal action would be taken against all those found involved in assaulting police personnel, vandalising government property and disturbing public order based on evidence found in the probe. A senior official from the state police headquarters, familiar with the matter, told HT that a total of 26 police personnel, including SSB jawans, were injured, and six police vehicles were damaged in the protests.
