Parents of Bhojpur youth depose before judicial probe commission
ARA, July 12 -- The judicial commission headed by retired Patna High Court judge Vinod Kumar Sinha, which is probing the police encounter of social activist Bharat Bhushan Tiwari, on Saturday recorded the statements of the deceased's parents at the commission's office in Ara.
The 28-year-old Tiwari, a social activist and YouTuber, was killed in a police encounter on June 17 after a stand-off with the local police.
According to reports, Bharat's father, Kashi Nath Tiwari, and mother, Aasha Devi, recorded their statements before the judicial commission.
Both were produced before the retired Patna High Court judge at the commission's office in Ara, which was allotted by the district administration for the judicial inquiry. People familiar with the matter said the parents apprised the commission of the sequence of events leading to their son's death in the police encounter. They deposed as eyewitnesses. According to sources, Bharat's father told the commission that he was kept at the police station throughout the night following his son's encounter.
People familiar with the matter said Bharat's younger brother, Chandan Tiwari, and the wife of his elder brother sought more time to record their statements. They too have been summoned by the commission. Sources said the commission will also record the statements of villagers in the coming days. Bharat hailed from Bilauti village under Shahpur police station in Bhojpur district.
The judicial commission had earlier said it would make every effort to submit its report to the state government within six months. Meanwhile, in the case lodged by Bharat's mother, Aasha Devi, seven witnesses, including herself, Bharat's younger brother and the wife of his elder brother, have so far recorded their statements before the court under Section 183 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS)....
