PATNA, May 13 -- Over 40 minor girls, aged between 10-17 years were, rescued from 15 orchestra groups during a nightlong operation in Bihar's Gopalganj district, police said on Tuesday. Around 22 people were arrested for their involvement in trafficking and exploitation of the minors, police added. The rescued girls have been sent to a safe place after counselling, police said. The rescue operation was carried out jointly by Gopalganj SP and members of Association for Voluntary Action and Narayani Sewa Sansthan on the directive of outgoing ADG (weaker section) Amit Kumar Jain. The rescued minor girls belong to West Bengal, Assam, Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh states and they were lured into the orchestra employment though networks of human trafficking. The girls said they were either sold by their alleged boyfriends or lured with money, fame, better life and were subsequently pushed into the cycle of exploitation. Some of the girls said that they were assured that if they worked in orchestras, they would find chance to work in Bhojpuri movies and song-dance albums. Gopalganj police carried out raids against 15 orchestras groups in Kuchaikote police station area since 1 am and raids concluded on 7 am. Raids were led by Gopalganj SP Vinay Tiwari. Manish Sharma, senior director of the Association for Voluntary Action, said, "The operation has once again exposed the scale at which minor girls are being trafficked and pushed into orchestra groups in Bihar."...
