BETTIAH, Sept. 5 -- After the recovery of over 200 bodies following devastating flash floods in Nepal, authorities in Nawalparasi district in Nepal are grappling with the daunting task of identifying the victims, many of whom remain unidentified. The district administration which has recovered as many as 215 bodies, believed to be victims of the flash floods that swept through Nepal's Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts, a whopping 199 bodies have been buried at the Mulpani Community Forest in Sunwal Municipality and the Chisapani Community Forest in Bardaghat Municipality. Speaking to Hindustan Times over phone, Nawalparasi's superintendent of police (SP) Ram Bahadur KC said of the 215 recovered so far from the Narayani river in the district, 199 bodies have been managed till date. "These bodies were recovered till date from August 27, a day after the incident occurred. Of these, only eight bodies have been identified by the family members. The unidentified bodies are being managed (reads buried) after DNA testing. These bodies have been assigned identification numbers, and based on these numbers, they will later be handed over to the respective families after the DNA verification process," the superintendent of police said. The SP said in all, 18 of the total bodies were recovered from Indian territories - one from Bagaha, four Maharajganj and 13 from Kushinagar.
