Dhanbad, June 23 -- The Dhanbad district police claimed to have busted a notorious bike-lifting gang allegedly involved in a series of motorcycle thefts across the district and arrested five members of the racket. Police also recovered 13 stolen motorcycles and tools used for tampering with vehicle identification details. The operation was launched following the theft of a motorcycle from the Kalubathan O.P. area on June 19. During the investigation, a special police team conducted raids and arrested five accused identified as Arman Ansari (19), Manish Kumar (19), Suraj Kumar (18), Chandan Kumar (18), and Rajkumar Das (19), all residents of Nirsa subdivision. During interrogation, the accused confessed to their involvement in organised motorcycle thefts. Police said the gang targeted motorcycles parked in markets, railway station areas and other public places. After stealing the vehicles, the gang allegedly changed their colours, tampered with registration numbers, chassis numbers and engine numbers, and then sold them to unsuspecting buyers. Police recovered five stolen motorcycles from the possession of the accused. Based on information provided during questioning, eight more stolen motorcycles were recovered from different locations, taking the total number of recovered vehicles to 13. Investigators also seized tools allegedly used to break locks and start motorcycles without keys.
