Nawada: 9-yr-old killed as school van overturns
PATNA, April 14 -- A private school van carrying over 20 children overturned on Kamalpur road under Govindpur police station in Nawada district on Monday, leaving a nine-year-old student dead and several others injured, police said.
The accident took place near Diksha Training School, when a van carrying students of Magadh Central School lost control and plunged nearly 20 feet off the road and turned turtle. Police said the victim was identified as Aarohi Kumari of Darshan village. Preliminary information suggests the driver was allegedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Police have taken the school van driver into custody.
Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as the vehicle rolled repeatedly before coming to a halt. Local villagers - who were harvesting wheat in nearby fields - rushed to the spot and played a crucial role in rescuing the children, pulling them out of the wreckage and transporting them to nearby hospitals.
Locals alleged that the vehicle was overloaded beyond capacity. The eyewitnesses also said the van was travelling at high speed.
Police reached the spot and initiated an investigation into the incident.
Police reportedly arrested the driver and lodged an FIR against him under the relevant sections of rash and negligent driving at Govindpur police station....
