PATNA, Aug. 12 -- Minister Nitish Mishra on Monday criticised police action against students protesting over JPSC (Jharkhand Public Service Commission) and JSSC (Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission) exams in Jharkhand and accused the Congress and other Opposition parties of adopting 'double standard' on student movements. Addressing a press conference at the BJP state office here on Tuesday, Mishra said student and youth issues were important, but the Opposition took different positions on such protests depending on the state and political circumstances. He asked why Opposition leaders who had supported student protests in Delhi were not extending similar support to students in Jharkhand. "Are students protesting in Jharkhand not students of the country?" he asked. Mishra said students had the right to raise their concerns peacefully in a democracy and alleged that changing political positions for convenience had exposed the Opposition's "contradictory policy" before the public, particularly the youth.
