PATNA, Aug. 10 -- Bihar deputy chief minister Samrat Choudhary and Union MSME minister and Hindustani Awam Morcha-Secular (HAM-S) founder Jitan Ram Manjhi held talks on Saturday centred around seat-sharing for the upcoming assembly elections, people privy to discussions between the two leaders said. Leaders familiar with the meeting said that Manjhi had expressed dissatisfaction with the NDA's proposed seat-sharing formula, reportedly insisting on a minimum of 20 Assembly seats for his party, despite demanding 40. The meeting was held under this backdrop. Leaders, though, didn't make it clear how seats were decided or it would take some more meetings to declare the final arrangement. Manjhi later talking to media persons after the meeting said that the NDA has almost finalised the seat allocation. "Whoever gets the seats, will have to be satisfied with that," he said. "There is no conflict here. Which party will get how many seats, it is all more or less decided. Whoever gets whatever seats, will have to be satisfied with the allocation, there is no question of dispute in this." Manjhi said, insisting that Bihar needs an NDA government again. "Given the way the Opposition parties are spreading false statements and misinformation, the only way to counter it is to ensure the formation of an NDA government in 2025," he added. HAM-S national president and state minister Santosh Kumar Suman was also present during the meeting. After the meeting, minister Santosh Suman described it as a formal interaction between Samrat Choudhary and Jitan Ram Manjhi that was focused mainly on preparations for the Prime Minister's visit. "There is no resentment in the NDA. The seat-sharing will be done on time. We have discussed the venue of the Prime Minister's rally in Gaya Ji, scheduled for August 22," he said. Manjhi-led HAM-S had contested seven seats in Bihar during the 2020 Assembly elections and won four seats. As the party has a strong hold among the Mahadalit community across the state, especially in Gaya Ji, Nawada, Jehanabad and other districts, Manjhi is bargaining for more this time, citing a good strike rate in the 2020 Assembly elections. During the meeting with Samrat Chaudhary, Manjhi said that PM Narendra Modi's proposed Bihar visit was also discussed. Manjhi said that Chaudhary asked him for suggestions regarding the programme. He proposed that the PM's programme should be held at Magadh University, so that the arrangements remain smooth even if 3-4 lakh people arrive. The seat-sharing talks within the NDA consisting of the BJP, JD (U), LJP (RV) and other smaller parties are set to be a tightrope walk for the ruling alliance. The JD(U), if NDA leaders are to be believed, is insisting that a 50:50 formula should be applied to the seat-sharing talks. LJP(RV), another smaller party with base among a sections of Dalits, on the other hand, is aiming to gain a larger foothold in the state. The BJP is learnt to be eying 120 seats to contest for itself in the 243-member Assembly....
