Man injured in bear attack
BETTIAH, May 27 -- A 50-year-old farmer was critically injured after being attacked by a bear in a forested area on the fringes of Ganauli forest range of Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR) in Bihar's West Champaran district on Tuesday.
According to forest department officials, the incident took place when Ranjit Oraon reached the outskirts of him native village Sakhuwana village under Valmikinagar police station area of West Champaran on Tuesday afternoon. The bear emerged suddenly from dense vegetation and attacked him, said officials.
"Yes, a man injured by a bear was brought here for treatment. He suffered injuries on his head and other parts of the body," Dr Rajendra Kaji, Medical Officer, public health centre (PHC) at Harnatand confirmed.
He has been referred to GMCH in Bettiah for treatment, he added.
His condition is stated to be critical.
People familiar with the matter said the animal moved back into the forest after local villagers gathered at the spot upon hearing his cries for help....
