BHABUA, Aug. 8 -- The court of Special POCSO Judge, District and Additional Sessions Judge, Pramod Kumar Pandey at Bhabua, awarded 20-year rigorous imprisonment to a man accused of raping a 15-year-old schoolgirl, officials said on Friday. Special Public Prosecutor Shashi Bhushan Pandey said that the court found Dipak Kushwaha, a resident of Sawath village under Durgawati police station area, guilty of raping a village girl on May 3, 2024. He followed the girl while she was on her way to school, abducted her from a secluded place and then raped her, Pandey said. A case was registered with Durgawati police station against the accused under section 376(3) of the Indian Penal Code and section 4(2) of the POCSO Act. Police submitted a charge-sheet in the court recommending a speedy trial of the case. Prosecution produced eight witnesses and documentary evidence and the court found the accused guilty under both sections. He was sentenced to 20 years RI with a fine of Rs.50,000. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional six months' imprisonment, the Special PP said.
