Haridwar, Aug. 19 -- A 48-year-old man, accused of sexually assaulting a minor, has been arrested after he was injured in a brief exchange of fire with police in Roorkee late Sunday night, officers said on Monday. Senior superintendent of police (SSP) Haridwar, Pramendra Dobhal said the accused, identified as Oves Ali (48), is wanted in multiple cases, including a recent sexual assault of a teenager. "At around midnight, a man riding a Bullet motorcycle (registration number UK 07 BB 9159) was asked to stop during a vehicle checking drive near Paniyala road. Instead, he reversed his bike and opened fire at the police team. Police retaliated and pursued the suspect towards the Bhagwanpur-Saliyar bypass. During the chase, Ali was hit by a bullet in his leg and fell to the ground," he said. "He was immediately apprehended and shifted to the joint hospital in Roorkee, where doctors declared his condition stable. He is still in hospital," the SSP said.
