PATNA, Aug. 26 -- As the Chhath Puja begins on October 25 this year with Nahay-Khay (the first ritual of the festival), people, including the migrant labourers residing outside Bihar, faced major difficulties in securing confirmed train tickets to their home towns on Monday. On Monday, many passengers tried to book tickets through reservation counters and the IRCTC website, but most trains were sold out within minutes. Entire berths in air-conditioned and sleeper classes were filled in less than 20 minutes of the booking window opening. For migrants, this is the crucial time of the year when families reunite for Diwali and Chhath. Last year, the Ministry of Railways (MoR) reduced the advance booking period for train tickets from 120 days to 60 days. With the festive season approaching and demand surging, passengers are finding it increasingly difficult to secure tickets. Ayusha Sinha, a student in Haryana, said she had been trying since 6 a.m. to book a seat in the Patna-bound Tejas Express through the IRCTC website. "The website showed that online booking would start around 8.10 a.m. Later, when it became functional at 8.26 a.m., we found that trains like Tejas, Dibrugarh Rajdhani, Kolkata Rajdhani, Shramjeevi Express, Sampoorna Kranti Express and others already showed 'Regret' status. Now, I am trying to book a confirmed ticket for Tuesday," she said....
