SASARAM, Sept. 1 -- Rohtas administration sounded an alert for residents in Sone River's downstream areas on Monday due to heavy water discharge from Bansagar Dam in Madhya Pradesh on Sunday, with teams from the administration and water resources department urging people in Sondila and other low-lying areas to evacuate. Meanwhile, WRD teams are working to secure erosion-prone sites in areas such as Tilouthu and Nasriganj using sandbags. Rohtas district magistrate Deepak Kumar Mishra said access to ancient Gupteshwar Mahadev Cave Temple has been suspended as the approach route is submerged due to heavy rains. The alert comes after chief engineer of Ganga Basin, WRD, Rewa (MP), informed that eight radial gates of Bansagar Dam were opened at 8 pm on August 30. Consequently, an additional water flow of approximately 3,277 Cumecs has been released into Sone river. In the event of further increases in inflow and water level, even larger amounts of water may be released through spillover. The water released from the Bansagar Dam will flow through Sone River to Indrapuri Barrage in Rohtas. In view of possible water rise, the administration has appealed to people to maintain distance from Sone river. WRD chief engineer at Dehri, Ajay Kumar Singh, said Indrapuri Barrage faced no immediate threat. However, rising water levels could pose a risk to people in Sondila and low-lying areas....
