KATIHAR, Sept. 11 -- A police picket established to protect farmers' crops at Mohna Chandpur diyara falling under Semapur police station of Katihar district has been washed away by the floods caused by Ganga river, leaving around 20 policement to take shelter in relief camp like all other displaced people. The diyara area has always been flood prone due to floods caused by Ganga and Mahananda rivers. "Yes, our camp has been flooded forcing us to take shelter at safer places," policemen told HT while leaving their camp at Mohna Chandpur diyara lock, stock and barrel. Semapur station house officer (SHO) Ram Shankar Kumar said that the policing in the area face the riverine wrath almost every year. "Every year this (flooding) happens and the personnel posted at the police camp have to shift to other places. This time, we have shifted them to the government middle school, Kanwar in Semapur. Once the floodwater recedes, they will re-establish the camp," he said. The camp, established in 2022, goes back to a gangwar in the riverine area between two gangs.
