Begusarai, Sept. 30 -- Police arrested two men after a woman associated with the JEEViKA self-help group programme was allegedly assaulted, blackmailed and raped at knifepoint at a hotel on National Highway-31 in Begusarai, days after cases of atrocities were reported from Jamui, Samastipur and Mandar Hills in Banka district, officials said. The incident, which reportedly occurred on September 27, came to light after a video of the assault circulated on social media. In the video, the man is seen pulling the victim by her hair and assaulting her with slippers. Police said the survivor was collecting loan repayments from women associated with JEEViKA self-help groups in her locality around 7.30 am on Sunday when she encountered her neighbour Vikram Kumar Sahni, who allegedly tricked her into getting onto his motorcycle. Sahni allegedly took her to a hotel under the guise of discussing a loan, where another suspect, Rohit Kumar, was waiting. Rohit allegedly raped the woman at knifepoint, assaulted her and recorded the act on his mobile phone, police said in a statement, the FIR said. The woman managed to escape from the hotel and returned home, where she narrated the incident to her family and subsequently lodged a police complaint. The video of the rape was circulated via WhatsApp through the survivor's mobile number, which was hacked. The account has now been blocked, police said.
