JE shot during robbery bid in running train
PATNA, June 13 -- A junior engineer posted at Jamui Power Grid was shot by armed robbers on a moving train (14604 Down) after he resisted their attempt to snatch his valuables in Bihar's Khagaria district, police said on Friday.
The incident took place around 8.30 pm on Thursday near Badlaghat railway station when armed men allegedly tried to rob Dev Kumar Gunjan, husband of a Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) posted in Supaul.
Dev, a native of Godda district in Jharkhand, was travelling to Supaul to meet his wife, Smita Kumari, and their son aboard the Amritsar-Narpatganj Jansadharan Express.
According to co-passengers, armed robbers suddenly entered the compartment and began snatching passengers' belongings. Dev reportedly resisted the robbery and opposed the looting.
The miscreants initially warned him to remain quiet, but he continued to protest. One of the robbers allegedly took out a belt and struck him on the head. When Dev tried to snatch the belt, the accused shot him and fled as the train was approaching Badlaghat railway station.
The incident triggered panic among passengers. After receiving information about the incident, a team of railway police personnel reached the station and rushed Gunjan to the nearest government hospital. He was later referred to Begusarai for better treatment....
