PATNA, Nov. 6 -- The Janata Dal (United) in its review meeting on Thursday took note of intra-party rebellion and other causes of party's below par performance in the recently-held legislative council elections. Simultaneously, the ruling NDA assembled its constituents to take stock of the elections and sought unity among partners. The meeting at the party office was called by state JD(U) chief Umesh Kushwaha and attended by party president Nitish Kumar, party working president Sanjay Kumar Jha, the winning and losing JD(U) candidates as well as legislators and district presidents. In the Council polls, the JD(U) could win just Patna graduates' seat, and that, too, after internal rift between party legislator Anant Singh and candidate Neeraj Kumar. "The meeting underlined the need for NDA unity not only on paper, but also on the ground. The candidates also shared their ground experiences and said that they had learnt important lessons during the election," the JD(U) leader said, adding that there was unanimity on action against those resorting to anti-party activities. Reviewing the reasons behind loss of three seats and dissension, the JD(U) meet also discussed organisational weaknesses to cash in on the good work of Nitish Kumar and internal conspiracies. "I have apprised the party leadership of my experiences and learnings during the election. Every debacle teaches something, and so has this one," said JD(U)'s Tirhut graduates' seat candidate Abhishek Jha, who lost for the second time and has been vocal alleging that his prospects were "sabotaged". Abhishek Jha said that all the candidates presented their viewpoints before the party leadership, which gave a patient hearing. "It is an internal matter of the party. In election, one either wins or learns to prepare strongly for the next time. Even conspiracies teach you a lot," he added. JD(U) legislator Randhir said that the loss of party candidates was a clear reflection that there was something lacking in the NDA and all the points have been presented before the party leadership. The state party chief Umesh Kushwaha said that the NDA is united and strong. "After every election there is review. That has happened. Learning from the mistakes, we have to look ahead now," he added, without touching upon the row over alleged induction of two independent MLAs into the BJP and subsequent backtracking. The JD(U) had earlier wasted no time in questioning the move and reminded the importance of "alliance dharma" to the BJP, as both Banshidhar Brajwasi (Tirhut graduates' constituency) and Rahul Raj (Saran teachers' constituency) had emerged victorious against JD(U) candidates Abhishek Kumar Jha and Anand Pushkar. On Thursday, chief minister Samrat Choudhary also chaired a meeting of all the constituents of the NDA and the candidates of all the eight seats for the MLC elections. Both JD(U) and the BJP had won one and two seats out of the four each they contested. Informing about the discussions at the meeting, JD(U) spokesman Rajiv Ranjan said that the NDA meeting revolved around the need for better coordination among the constituents, recent elections, the large-scale development work going on in the state and the emerging political situation in the country. BJP spokesman Prabhakar Mishra said that the NDA was working with unity and it was not for elections only. "The NDA meeting at the CM's residence is part of the routine exercise," he added. After the NDA meeting, state BJP state president Sanjay Saraogi told the media that the meeting also discussed the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Narendra to Vaishali on November 21 . "An industrial corridor spreading across 1,260- acre is coming up in Vaishali. PM Modi will address an event there," Saraogi said. The opposition RJD, in its reaction to the JD(U) and NDA meetings, said that there is distrust in the alliance. "The atmosphere of distrust was apparent when the BJP tried to induct two independent MLCs who had defeated JD(U) candidates and later it hastily distanced from this," said RJD spokesman Ejaz Ahmad....
