Jamshedpur, Aug. 4 -- The Jamshedpur police came under the QR code based digital beat policing (e-beat policing) system from Monday for efficient, prompt and effective policing along with round-the-clock duty accountability as Jamshedpur senior superintendent of police (SSP) Dr Ehtesham Waqarib formally launched the system at the Control and Command Room (CCR) in the Sakchi police station (PS) premises. "Under the new digital monitoring and response system, the city of Jamshedpur has been divided into 102 beats while the rural areas of the East Singhbhum district have been divided into 104 beats. A dedicated beat officer has been assigned for every beat who will be responsible for regular patrolling, collection of crime related information and data, interaction with local citizens and crime control through Tango mobiles and regular PS level patrolling under their beats," Waqarib told the media on the occasion. The SSP further informed that this system has been introduced to make digital technology based crime control more effective, better monitoring of the crime-prone areas and strengthen overall law and order situation in the city and around. "This will also facilitate more public cooperation in policing, enhance visibility of police and public confidence. It will also increase police presence at identified crime hotspots, strengthen beat intelligence and community engagement. Under the system, every Tango mobile vans and PS patrolling vans will have to scan the exclusive QR codes in their respective duty-areas twice in every duty shift. In addition, every beat officer will patroll their respective beat areas on motorcycle or on foot between 5.00 PM and 8.00 PM," the SSP said. "QR codes have been set up at 725 locations across the city and adjacent locations to start with. Later more QR code set-ups will be installed at other locations. The locations have been chosen at crime-prone areas, markets, transport hubs, sensitive areas and public places based on the scientific study of crime data of the past five years. This system will also ensure duty accountability as digital record will be automatically made through QR code scanning.
