RANCHI, Sept. 25 -- Four youngsters, including the daughter of state rural development minister Dipika Pandey Singh, were killed in a road accident when the car they were travelling in rammed a stationary truck in Jamshedpur in the wee hours on Thursday, police said. The accident occurred on Marine Drive Road under Sonari police station between 2 and 3 am, people aware of the development said. "At least four people, including rural development and panchayati raj minister Dipika Pandey Singh's daughter Trisha Singh, have been killed. The others have been identified as Sarthak Agarwal, Naman Gupta and Vanshika Khandelwal," Sonari police station officer in-charge Sanjay Suman said. The victims, aged 17 and 18, were Class 12 students at Carmel Junior College in the city. "While Trisha and Sarthak were 18 years old, the other two were 17. Barring Vanshika, who lived in Adityapur area in neighbouring Saraikela district, the other three lived in different neighbourhoods in Sonari and Kadma areas in the city. Besides Trisha, whose father is a senior executive with Tata Steel, the parents of two victims are businessmen, and one is a lawyer," said another official. Eyewitnesses and officials confirmed all four passengers died instantly. Visuals from the scene showed the truck parked on the right side of the four-lane highway close to the divider with a small tree branch placed in its rear, indicating it was stranded after a breakdown and could not be moved. The car rear-ended the truck, which proved fatal for the occupants. "Rescuers pulled the bodies out of the car using gas cutters. They were so mutilated that immediate recognition was difficult. Post-mortem examinations of the four were conducted at MGMCH and the bodies were handed over to their respective families," an official said. Pankaj Tiwari, son of the owner and driver of the truck, told the media they began the rescue operation soon after they heard a loud sound, "Our truck broke down around 10 pm. I was waiting for my father who had gone to look for another mechanic because the first one we called could not repair the vehicle. Suddenly we heard a loud bang behind our vehicle. We saw four persons in the car, but all had died on the spot. A boy was in the driver's seat. We stopped another vehicle for help and also dialled 112. We then pulled out the bodies after lots of effort. All this happened between 2:20 and 2:50 am," said Pankaj. Sources said Sarthak was driving the car, and the vehicle was registered in the name of his father Chetan Agrawal. Speaking to the media outside the hospital, Rajeev Gupta, father of deceased Naman Gupta, said the four were friends from the same school, but was unaware why or when his son had left home to join the group on that ride. "We were together till around 1.30 am before he went to his room. He must have left only after 2. But we had no idea he had left home after that. We got a call in the morning about the incident," he added. Meanwhile, Trisha's body was taken by her father, Ratnesh Singh, to the official residence of her mother, in Ranchi for the last rites. The minister was in her constituency, Mahgama in Godda district, around 350 km from Jamshedpur, at the time of the incident. She flew back to Ranchi via Deoghar. Trisha was Singh's younger daughter. Her elder daughter is pursuing higher studies abroad. Top leaders including CM Hemant Soren, Congress workers and supporters reached Singh's residence to console the grieving family, before the last rites were conducted at Sithiyo Mukti Dham....
