PATNA, Sept. 17 -- IRCTC's website crashed on Wednesday as many, including migrant workers outside Bihar, attempted to book railway tickets for Chhath festival, officials said on Wednesday. When service resumed 15 minutes later, all Patna-bound trains from various states already showed waiting lists exceeding 100, two months ahead of the festival. Trains are currently showing "No Room" for the period spanning Diwali to Chhath Puja. Devotees are expected to reach home by the morning of November 13 to observe Chhath Puja, making the reservation critical for arriving on time for the evening arghya, officials said. With no special trains announced yet, travellers face severe difficulties securing confirmed tickets. The four-day festival begins on November 13, prompting millions of passengers to plan their journeys home ahead of the festivity. Consequently, many are forced to rely on unscrupulous booking agents and touts offering reservation tickets at hefty premiums, they added. The reduced 60-day advance reservation window, down from the previous 120 days, has intensified competition for seats, particularly on popular services like Rajdhani and Tejas Express, resulting in widespread passenger disappointment and extensive waiting lists. According to railway officials familiar with the matter, the overwhelming demand for reservations on major routes connecting Patna and Bihar has risen. Popular trains like the New Delhi-Rajendra Nagar Tejas Rajdhani, New Delhi-Rajendra Nagar Terminal Sampoorna Kranti Express, New Delhi-Rajgir Shramjeevi Express, Pune-Danapur, Mumbai-Patna, Bengaluru-Danapur and Ahmedabad-Patna are fully booked. Many passengers attempted to secure tickets through reservation counters. However, all the berths of air-conditioned and sleeper classes were full within 20 minutes. Passengers also complained of glitches on the IRCTC website, saying it displayed a message stating 'heavy-load' from Monday midnight....
