PATNA/PURNEA, Aug. 1 -- The Nepal Railway Company has suspended train services between Jayanagar (India) and Janakpur (Nepal) due to deteriorating law and order situation, a railway official said on Friday. There have been reports of communal clashes and curfew in Nepal districts bordering India in past few days. Jaynagar Railway Station Superintendent of Nepali Railways SL Meena confirmed that train services have been suspended since Friday after curfew was imposed in Dhanusha district. "The movement of trains on the Jayanagar-Janakpur-Bijalpura rail section completely suspended till further orders," he added. A letter to the GRP/RPF/SSB Jaynagar, the Nepal Railway authorities said that the cross-border train service has been suspended considering the passengers' safety and it will be resumed once the situation becomes normal in Nepal. The train ran thrice daily between Jayanagar, Janakpur, and Bijalpura. Around 5,000 passengers are believed to commute between India and Nepal via this train. Three people have been killed in Nepal in communal violence that erupted earlier this week after a dispute over religious flags in Sunsari district of Nepal and spread to other areas. Taking cognizance of the unrest, the security has been increased in all bordering districts in Bihar. A blockade is erected at the Indo-Nepal border to prevent anyone from entering India. "Seven of our districts border Nepal, where additional police forces have been deployed," said a senior official of Sahastra Seema Bal (SSB) that mans the security on the Nepal border. Markets along the Indo-Nepal border areas in Bhimnagar and Birpur of Bihar's Supaul district wear a deserted look, suggesting the immediate effect of the halt in customer influx from Nepal as these markets thrive on cross-border clientele. "The volume of business in Bhimnagar market has sharply declined, reduced to just Rs.1-2 lakh per day against the usual Rs.35 lakh a day earlier," said a local businessman. He said the reason for the reduced trade in the market is a decline in Nepali customers. Bhimnagar and Birpur are two neighbouring localities situated near the Indo-Nepal border in Supaul district. While Birpur has emerged as a commercial hub, Bhimnagar serves as a critical strategic node centred on the massive Kosi Barrage infrastructure. The epicentre of the communal clash in Nepal is Sunsari district located in southeastern Nepal, sharing a border with Bihar, and it has been an important transit and commercial corridor between the two countries....
