PATNA, Sept. 15 -- The Chancellor's office has summoned the Aryabhatt Knowledge University (AKU) VC Sharad Kumar Yadav as the Governor wants to call him in the wake of the unsavoury incident with the probe panel constituted to probe the irregularities. "I am directed to convey the direction of the Chancellor that you inform the VC to immediately return to the university headquarters and be present from office from tomorrow onwards. The Chancellor wishes to call him in person in order to speak to him regarding the unfortunate incident of obstructing the duly constituted enquiry committee by you and other private persons on Saturday," said the letter from Dipak Kumar Singh, additional chief secretary to the Governor, to the AKU registrar. As the New's about the tough stand of the Lok Bhawan spread, the VC, who was on leave since September 10, reached Patna on Monday afternoon. He wanted to meet the Governor, but he did not get time, said a senior Lok Bhawan official. The Lok Bhawan had set up a high-level committee on July 27 to investigate the alleged financial and other irregularities and submit a report within 15 days. The committee comprised special secretary (higher education department) Pawan Kumar Sinha, joint secretary (home department) Md Jameel, deputy director (prosecution) Ravikant Dev and deputy secretary (education department) Ramanuj Prasad Singh. The registrar of the AKU was asked to provide all the necessary documents required by the committee. The probe panel was also provided all the complaints received against the university. However, when the panel reached the AKU and sought certain documents, it was not provided and this reportedly led to some heated exchanges and slogan shouting by outsourced staff and outsiders, which was reported to the Lok Bhawan and it led to summoning of the VC. AKU registrar Niranjan Prasad Yadav said that it was a difficult situation for him, as the VC had instructed not to provide any document without his approval, while the ACS directed that the registrar would provide all the documents. "I am under the VC. I am also under the Lok Bhawan. What can I do?" he added. On the other hand, the outsourced staff of the AKU agitated against the probe team and alleged highhandedness of the convenor Pawan Kumar Sinha.
