Govt ready for 'free, fair' NEET-UG re-exam amid Yoga Day events
PATNA, June 10 -- The Bihar government is prepared to conduct free and fair NEET-UG re-examination on June 21 when the state will also observe International Yoga day events, senior officials said following a high-level meeting chaired by chief secretary (CS) Pratyaya Amrit and director general of police (DGP) Vinay Kumar on Tuesday.
"Since International Yoga Day will also be observed on June 21, two dedicated teams will work for the successful ends of both events. There should be no disruption in the route or traffic of examination centres due to yoga day events. If there is any kind of deadlock over manpower or venue, the management for NEET exam will be the prime focus," the CS said.
Under the arrangement, question papers will be airlifted to state hubs by special aircrafts of the Indian Air Force (IAF) in coordination with the department of posts to ensure impenetrable security, officials said, adding the move aims to reduce duration of question papers delivery to examination centres to 2-3 hours.
Amrit said, "The state government is confident and determined to conduct this examination smoothly without any errors or lapses. To ensure confidentiality and impregnable security, question papers will be securely airlifted to state hubs. This historic, technical and strategic shift will also save time."
A magistrate and a police team along with up to fourteen homeguards will be deployed at each centre for frisking. The transfer of any officer or employee associated with the examination will not be effective before June 22. All delegated personnel have to report to the mandatory mock drill on June 20.
Meanwhile, all coaching institutions in the state will be mandatorily inspected and institutions involved in suspicious activities in the past will be placed under round-the-clock surveillance based on inputs from Local Intelligence Unit and Intelligence Bureau.
In view of the intense heat across Bihar, a suitable shed will be set up about 100 meters from all examination centres by the district administration for parents to sit outside. District magistrates have also been directed to ensure drinking water and Sattu at all centres in coordination with local NGOs. Besides, ORS packets and medical mobile units will be ready at every centre. All DMs and SPs have been instructed to review preparations daily.
As per the special order of the state government, all the candidates appearing for the re-examination will be provided free bus tickets by Bihar State Road Transport Corporation. In addition, Government Rail Police has been instructed to increase patrolling in trains and arrange security for safe movement and temporary stoppage of examinees on all railway platforms.
The DGP said that all digital platforms will be monitored till after the re-examination. If any anti-social element makes a false claim of paper leak or circulates a fake question paper or spreads rumors, strict action will be taken against him.
Police also cautioned students and their parents against rumours and fraud calls offering question papers and answers ahead of the re-examination. "The public is advised not to fall prey to misinformation and fraud calls by cyber fraudsters luring them to provide answer sheets/question papers in the upcoming NEET-UG examination on June 21," they said.
The National Testing Agency (NTA) recently announced June 21 as the date for the retest. A total of 331 examination centres have been set up across 35 cities in Bihar for 1,56,061 examinees. Patna has a maximum of 95 centres.
