PATNA, May 10 -- Investigations found that a daylight robbery at the Bank of Maharashtra branch in Singrauli, Madhya Pradesh, on April 17 was planned and executed from the famous Beur Central Jail in Patna. According to police, which include personnel from MP, Gujarat and Bihar, notorious gangster Subodh Singh hatched and guided the robbery from Beur jail. Five armed robbers entered the bank in Baidhan area of MP's Singrauli district, opened fire, held customers and staff hostage, and fled with nearly 9-10 kilograms of gold and Rs.20 lakh in cash, a loot estimated to be worth around Rs.15 crore. The heist took place at 1 pm when the area was bustling. After the crime, the culprits fled on motorbikes toward Chhattisgarh border. They were caught on several CCTV footage. Singrauli SP Manish Khatri said that the first breakthrough in the case came after the interrogation of the arrested accused, Kamlesh Kumar alias Gorelal (Nalanda), who was nabbed with Rs.15 lakh in cash and 61.77 gm of gold (valued Rs.70 lakh) from a railway route at Dehri-on-Sone railway station in Rohtas district while attempting to flee on April 18. "During questioning, Kamlesh Kumar revealed key details about his accomplices, which helped police establish their identities and track their possible locations. Two of his associates, Chandan alias Chaiya Yadav (21) and Gulshan (19), were arrested from the Nagarnausa police station area in Nalanda district. Before the robbery, Chandan and Gulshan had planned the crime along with other accused," said Khatri. Grilling these accused led investigators to Subodh's name. SP Manish Khatri said that the police later raided the barrack where Subodh was kept and found incriminating evidence. The SP added that Subodh masterminded the robbery through his accomplice and was in touch with the robbers via a mobile. According to police, two teams from MP and Gujarat interrogated Singh and his associate Kundan Bhagat in jail and found some leads in the case. Singh is a notorious criminal who was lodged in Alipore Jail in West Bengal some months ago and was recently brought to Bihar.
