BETTIAH, Aug. 26 -- State Vigilance Bureau (VB) sleuths on Monday caught West Champaran's district fishery officer-cum-chief executive officer for allegedly accepting Rs.1 lakh as bribe in connection with a scheme under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Yojana at Bettiah, officials said. The arrested officer was identified as Piyush Ranjan. Vigilance Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Pawan Kumar said the officer had demanded a 10 per cent commission-Rs.1 lakh-out of the Rs.10 lakh subsidy sanctioned to Ayesha Siddiqui, a resident of Pakhnaha Bazaar in Bariya block of West Champaran. "After verifying the complaint, a vigilance team laid a trap and caught the DFO while accepting the bribe of Rs.1 lakh at his Bettiah office," the DSP said, adding that the role of an employee was also being investigated. The complaintant had contacted the Vigilance Bureau on August 22 with the complaint that the DFO had sought the bribe as a precondition to extend benefits of other schemes to his family....
