PATNA, June 8 -- The fire services department on Sunday issued a notice to Khan Global Studies, the coaching institute run by educator Faisal Khan aka Khan Sir, at Mussalahpur Hatt area under Kadamkuan police station in Patna. This followed several structural deficiencies found during a fire audit by the Bihar Police, officials said on Sunday. The audit was conducted days after a fire at a private hospital in Muzaffarpur district claimed seven lives. Fire department officials said a surprise inspection of KGS checked the institute's fire safety arrangements, including emergency exits, firefighting equipment, and compliance with prescribed safety norms, revealing several serious deficiencies during the inspection. An official said that the fire team found deficiencies, noting that no automatic fire detection system was available and that the required pump house and underground water tank with a capacity of 1.5 lakh liters did not meet the requirements. "We have found deficiencies at KGS during the fire audit, and a notice will be issued soon. If they fail to comply within a week, appropriate action will be taken," assistant district fire officer Ajay Kumar Sharma told reporters after the inspection. DIG Manoj Nat stated that KGS may be sealed for non-compliance of fire safety norms. The fire department officials said that the KGS was inspected for the second time within 15 days. The fire commandant officer Ritesh Kumar Pandey said, "The fire department had earlier inspected the coaching institute on May 25 and found that the five-storey building, spread over nearly 4,000 square metres with a height of 18 metres, did not meet the mandatory fire safety requirements under the Fire Services Act. An official notice was issued to the institute on May 31, granting a 15-day window for compliance. The team visited again on Sunday prior to the June 15 deadline, to verify whether work on the suggested improvements had commenced," he added. Officials stressed thousands of students visit the institute regularly and that no compromise on fire safety would be tolerated. Meanwhile, according to a statement issued by the governor's secretariat, fire safety audits and the related compliance process have been completed in 1,679 out of Bihar's 1,943 hospitals and in 3,744 out of the state's 4,020 hotels. The remaining hospitals and hotels have been directed to ensure compliance with fire safety standards and other provisions prescribed by the government at the earliest, it added. Despite attempts to contact them, KGS representatives made no comment. Khan Sir, who has been named in the FIR over firing incident at his institute on June 2, remains elusive and his lawyer has said that he would seek anticipatory bail from the court on Monday....
