PATNA, July 23 -- Chief minister Samrat Choudhary on Wednesday told the state assembly that farmers in districts where drought-like situation arose due to deficit rains would be eligible to get diesel subsidy from the government. The CM made the announcement after opposition members raised the issue of drought-like situation in several parts of the state and farmers facing difficult times due to deficit rains. RJD's Kumar Sarvjeet raised the issue along with other members, who also trooped to the well of the house for a few minutes by holding placards. The CM, addressing the opposition members, said that government was already in active mode to tackle any situation arising from deficit rains and a drought-like situation. "We are providing uninterrupted electricity to farmers from 6 am to 6 pm for irrigation purposes," he said. Choudhary also highlighted all district magistrates had been directed to provide diesel subsidy to farmers in districts where a drought-like situation arises in the coming days. "We have asked the DMs to send a report on the rainfall received in districts and also drought-like situation," he said. Bihar has been facing deficit rains from June-end and this month too with a large number of districts having received low rainfall than normal affecting paddy transplantation and sowing of other crops in this kharif season. The rain deficit in Bihar is around 50% this month though officials in agriculture department are hopeful good rains in coming days would increase the sowing of paddy....
