KISHANGANJ, Sept. 21 -- The special investigation team (SIT) Kishanganj police in Bihar arrested 24-year-old Swapnamy Adhikari, the alleged mastermind of an interstate fake Aadhaar card racket, from West Bengal's Purba Bardhaman district, police said on Sunday. The arrest was made during a raid conducted in the Raina police station area. With this operation, the SIT has apprehended a total of four individuals linked to the syndicate. Investigations reveal that the gang's operational network spanned across Bihar, West Bengal, and Uttar Pradesh. The group reportedly operated by selling illegal software and providing technical access to members via applications like AnyDesk. The members used cloned biometric fingerprints and specialized software to bypass security protocols and generate fraudulent identity documents, officials said. "After interrogation, the kingpin was sent to judicial custody," a press release issued from the SP office said. The matter came to light on April 2, this year, when Kishanganj superintendent of police (SP) Santosh Kumar led a team that carried out a raid into a grocery store leading to uncover an illegal operation of Aadhaar cards. Later an FIR under the Bhartya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), 2023 and the IT ACT was registered in the Terhagachh police station adjacent to West Bengal. "The SP has taken it seriously and later a SIT was formed to bust the racket and now we can say the police have succeeded in its mission," a senior police officer told HT. "During interrogation, police have got vital clues regarding the hideouts of other members of the racket and they will be arrested soon," police said. In June last year, Kishanganj police claimed to have busted a racket of making fake Aadhaar cards and allegedly supplied them to Bangladeshi infiltrators by arresting a man and seized several fake Aadhaar cards, laptop, printer, Nepalese currency and other incriminating documents....
