PATNA, Aug. 2 -- Former social welfare minister Manju Verma of Cheria Bariarpur and her husband Chandrashekhar Verma were sentenced to seven years jail in an Arms Act case of 2018 by MP-MLA court, Begusarai on Saturday . Manju Verma and her husband Chandrashekhar Verma was convicted by the MP/MLA Court in the famous Arms Act case of 2018 and sentenced to seven years of rigorous imprisonment each. The court also imposed a fine on both. Following the verdict, they were taken into judicial custody and sent to the divisional Jail in Begusarai. ADJ-2, special judge of the MP/MLA Court, Brajesh Kumar Singh, delivered the verdict in this case, Cheriabariyarpur police Station Case No. 143/2018. After the hearing concluded, the court found Manju Verma and Chandrashekhar Verma guilty under serious sections of the Arms Act. Public Prosecutor Ram Prakash Yadav said that the court sentenced Manju Verma and her husband Chandrashekhar to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 50,000 each under Section 25(1-A) read with Section 35 of the Arms Act. Additionally, they were also sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs.40,000 each under Section 26(1-A) of the Arms Act. According to the court order, both sentences will be implemented as per the rules. This case came to light during the investigation into the infamous Muzaffarpur shelter home scandal of 2018. On August 17, 2018, the CBI raided Manju Verma's residence in Sripur Arjun Tola, Begusarai district, after her name surfaced in the Muzaffarpur shelter home case. The CBI was entrusted with the investigation of the Muzaffarpur shelter home scandal in 2018. At the time, Manju Verma was a Janata Dal (United) MLA and served as the Minister of Social Welfare in the Bihar government. During the investigation, the CBI also raided her ancestral home in Khanjhapur village in Begusarai district. The agency claimed to have recovered a .303 rifle along with other weapons and ammunition.
