PATNA, June 25 -- The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) on Wednesday conducted simultaneous raids at six locations at Patna, Noida, Dwarka, Bhagalpur and Greater Noida linked to Pawan Kumar, an Executive Engineer and Director-level officer in the Building Construction Department, in connection with a disproportionate assets case. A verification based on credible inputs revealed Kumar allegedly amassed assets worth Rs.3.89 crore beyond known sources of income. Investigators estimated the assets to be nearly 103.94 per cent higher than his legitimate earnings. Following the findings, EOU registered a case under relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act and obtained search warrants from the Special Vigilance Court in Patna. The search operations began on Tuesday under the supervision of senior police officers. Raids are underway at six premises associated with Kumar, including his flat at Yamuna Niwas Apartment in Sri Krishna Puri, Patna, his office premises, a house in the Tilkamanjhi area of Bhagalpur, two residential properties in Noida, and a flat in Sector 10 of Dwarka, New Delhi. Officials recovered several important documents, including land papers and jewellery. EoU found Pawan, a native of Bhagalpur, joined Bihar government in July 1997 as an assistant engineer and purchased more than 13 flats/house and land. In 2007, he purchased a flat in Yamuna Apartment on the name of his wife Awedika Singh. In 2008, he purchased a two storied building in Ashiana Nagar in Patna, between 2021 and 2023, he purchased 44 kattha (134.88 dismal) commercial land on the name of wife and sons, a flat found in Maxblis society at Noida Sector 75 and another flat at Arihant Orden society in Greater Noida. In Yamuna Apartment, EoU seized Rs.5 lakh cash, memos and invoices regarding purchase of gold jewellery. Besides, Rs.90 lakh in different PPF accounts and 11 polices of multiple companies....
