SASARAM, July 31 -- The Economic Offence Unit (EOU) on Thursday conducted simultaneous raids on six locations, including the home, office and residence of Minor Irrigation Department Executive Engineer (EE) Arvind Kumar Chaudhary who is posted in Rohtas. Following verification of information received from reliable sources regarding the accumulation of assets disproportionate to known sources of income by the EE, a case has been registered under section 13(2) and read section 13(1)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption Act. Search warrants were obtained from the Special Court (Vigilance), Patna, and search operations were conducted on six different locations associated with him, led by officers of the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police, DIG Manavjeet Singh Dhillon said. During the verification process, prima facie evidence indicated the accused amassed assets worth a total of Rs.1,19,98,534 in excess of his known sources of income; this amount exceeds his known income by approximately 85.05%. The ED found that the officer had purchased Flat No. 405 in 'Venus Paradise' and Flat No. 1301 in 'Venus Empire'-both located in Danapur-which are grand and luxurious. Further investigation will include an assessment of the expenditure incurred on the interiors and furnishings of both flats. During the search, approximately Rs.9 lakh in cash was recovered from the accused's flats and residences in Danapur, Muzaffarpur, and Dehri-on-Sone. Documents relating to the purchase of a Ford Eco Sport vehicle and a motorcycle were also recovered. Additionally, a large number of documents concerning investments made by Chaudhary were found. Gold jewellery weighing 500 grams was also recovered during the search, along with documents pertaining to investments in real estate (flats and land). Documents related to 17 insurance policies with the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) and other insurance companies-were recovered. Details regarding the invested amounts will be gathered during further investigation, Dhillon said. A total of 21 bank passbooks and documents related to fixed deposits in his name and the names of his family members across various banks-were recovered. The total amount deposited in these fixed deposits and bank accounts was found to be approximately Rs.25 lakh. Action has been initiated to freeze these accounts. A bank locker was also discovered, which is yet to be searched. He has also spent a significant amount on his children's education; further information regarding this is being gathered. The recovered and seized documents are currently being examined. The search conducted so far strongly indicates an accumulation of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. The Minor Water Resources Department, Bihar, Patna is being apprised of the case registered against Chaudhary and the matter regarding the dereliction of his duties as a public servant, the DIG added....
