KISHANGANJ, Nov. 4 -- Bihar's Economic Offences Unit (EOU) on Tuesday launched simultaneous raids against Ruby Kumari, the district programme officer (DPO) of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) in Kishanganj in connection with a disproportionate assets (DA) case, officials said. Preliminary estimates by the EOU indicate that she and her husband allegedly amassed assets worth approximately Rs.2.45 crore in excess of their known sources of income, around 87.5% more than their legitimate earnings. An Economic Offences police station case (No. 31/26) was registered against Ruby Kumari and her husband, Gaurav Kumar Yadav, alias Bunty Yadav, who is posted as a senior TTE in the Katihar railway division. Confirming the raids, EOU deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Rakesh Kumar said, "The raid is being conducted at multiple places against Ruby Kumari, DPO posted at Kishanganj, in connection with a disproportionate assets case involving assets approximately 87.5% more than her known income." He added, "After the raids conclude, a full disclosure of the assets can be made." He also said, "We had a number of complaints against her." Raids are underway at four locations, including her official chamber in Kishanganj, her rented accommodation in Line Para, Kishanganj, her residential house in Officers' Colony under the additional police station in Katihar, and her paternal home in Katihar. "Even her appointment is under the scanner, as her father-in-law, a retired headmaster, continues to wield considerable influence in the education department," a senior education department officer told HT. The officer added, "Despite objections being raised against her posting in her home district of Katihar, she served a full term as the establishment DPO there." EOU sources said she allegedly purchased 11 plots of land in the Katihar town area between 2018 and 2025. A five-storey building is also under construction in the town. "The EOU team has reportedly seized several land deeds, bank passbooks, investment papers and jewellery," EOU sources said, adding that some properties in West Bengal had also been identified and that an investigation was underway. Meanwhile, members of the teaching fraternity in Katihar and Kishanganj districts expressed satisfaction over the raids. "Such raids should have been conducted much earlier," a senior headmaster of a government middle school in Katihar said, describing her as one of the most corrupt officers....
