BETTIAH, Aug. 30 -- Eleven people from Bihar's East Champaran and West Champaran districts are feared missing in Nepal after a massive flash flood swept through the Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts of the neighbouring country, people familiar with the matter said on Saturday. Migrant workers Neyaz Miya (32), Mehadi Hasan (35), Salman Alam (32) and Sameer Alam (29), who returned to their native village of Turhapatti in Chanpatia block on Friday evening after narrowly escaping the disaster in Nepal, are deeply worried. Three of their co-villagers, including the father of returnee Salman Alam, Mohammed Arman Miyan, have been missing since the tragedy struck. Arman, who worked as a carpenter in Sapadu in Rasuwa district in central Nepal, is among those feared missing. The anxiety in the village has deepened with every passing hour as families await information about their loved ones. "We were seven, sharing a rented room in Sapadu. Two of us were unwell and stayed back in our room, which was on higher ground; three had gone to work in the Sapadu basin area, and one stayed behind on the hill. Then, around 9 am, a massive surge of muddy water swept through the lower part of Rasuwa district - and within moments, there was no trace of life or houses which often happened to be bustling lively," said Neyaz Miyan, a carpenter by profession. Those missing have been identified as Arman Miyan, Mukhtar Ansari and Sameer Ansari - residents of Turahapatti in Chanpatia block of West Champaran. Amid the prevailing anxiety in the village, they were all praise for the Nepal government. "We were airlifted after being rescued by the Nepali army and hired a private vehicle from Dhumche (Rasuwa district) to our native village," said Mehandi Hasan. According to officials, while five people who hailed from Lala Parsa village which falls under Adapur police station area in Raxaul sub-division are traceless, three migrant labourers from Jagiraha in Bathana panchayat under Kesariya police station area of East Champaran are feared missing after a massive flash flood swept through Rasuwa district of Nepal on August 26. Chanpatia's Circle Officer (CO) in West Champaran Rahul Kumar said three people from his circle who worked as workers in Nepal have been missing ever since the catastrophe struck Nepal. "Family members of some people residing in Nepal have informed us that they have been unable to contact them. We are in touch with the Consulate General and are trying to ascertain their whereabouts," said Suman Saurabh Yadav, district magistrate (DM), East Champaran, referring to the missing persons who hail from Kesariya and Adapur. At Jagiraha village in Kesariya block of East Champaran, the hopes of the family members of migrant workers Ram Babu Sah (51), Pramod Kumar Sah (45) and Munit Kumar Sah are growing dimmer with each passing hour, as they have been unable to establish communication with them since devastating floods struck Nepal....
