BHABUA/Patna, Oct. 23 -- The Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday cancelled the nomination of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidate Shweta Suman from the Mohania (SC) assembly seat in Bihar's Kaimur district, after determining that she was a native of Uttar Pradesh, officials said. Mohania is a Scheduled Caste-reserved constituency, and under election rules, a person recognised as a Scheduled Caste (SC) in one state cannot contest from a reserved seat in another. The BJP, in a petition to the Bihar chief electoral officer and the returning officer of Mohania on Tuesday, had objected to Suman's candidature, arguing that her caste-"chamar"- is recognised as SC in Uttar Pradesh. BJP's state legal cell co-convenor Sanjay Ram said that Suman's earlier nomination in 2020, filed as "Suman Devi, wife of Vinod Ram," clearly showed her as a resident of Uttar Pradesh. The returning officer upheld the BJP's objection and cancelled her nomination on Wednesday. Reacting to the cancellation, Suman accused the EC of acting under pressure. "It was cancelled to ensure BJP's Sangita Kumar wins.. I've been living here for 20 years," she said....
