Drive against squatters intensified
DHANBAD, July 28 -- Stepping up its campaign to improve urban sanitation and ensure smooth drainage during the monsoon, the Dhanbad Municipal Corporation (DMC) on Monday carried out an anti-encroachment drive in the congested Panchgarhi Bazar area of Katras, removing illegal structures built over major roadside drains that obstructed cleaning operations.
The drive, conducted jointly with the local administration and police, focused on temporary extensions, platforms and other unauthorized structures erected over large drains. Municipal workers also undertook cleaning of the exposed drains after the encroachments were removed, with officials saying the exercise was aimed at preventing waterlogging and improving sanitation in one of Katras' busiest commercial pockets....
