DARBHANGA, Sept. 4 -- SpiceJet officials confirmed that a direct flight to Bengaluru would start from Darbhanga September 20, while a new service to Ahmedabad was planned after Chhath festival. Expansion of passenger amenities and infrastructure at Darbhanga Airport was the key focus of the Airport Advisory Committee meeting chaired by MP Gopal Jee Thakur here on Wednesday Thakur also pressed for expanding connectivity to Ayodhya, Ranchi, Chennai, and other major cities to meet the growing passenger demand from north Bihar. Officials reported that the Rs.912 crore new terminal building project had achieved 30% progress and was on track for timely completion. The MP also urged for speedy construction of seven aircraft aprons and early commissioning of CAT-II lighting to facilitate night landings. The committee also reviewed earlier proposals, including naming the airport after poet Vidyapati, building pedestrian pathways from Delhi Mor to the airport gate, expanding parking facilities, and installing drinking water kiosks and public toilets outside the terminal. He suggested incorporating Mithila culture in the airport's design, setting up a CISF camp for security, and completing formalities to upgrade it into an international airport, with future links to Gulf destinations....
