PATNA, Aug. 8 -- Bihar chief secretary Amrit Lal Meena has written a proposal letter to the chairman of railway board (CRB) to build a railway station near Punaura Dham, believed to be the birthplace of Goddess Sita, in Sitamarhi district, official said on Thursday. Currently a new railway line is being constructed between Sheohar and Sitamarhi (28kms distance). There is a distance of 10.6kms between Rewasi and Sitamarhi railway stations and the Mata Janki temple will be midway between the two. The new railway line passes just 1.6km from the temple. Meena has said in his letter addressed to CRB Satish Kumar that a national highway was being constructed to reach the temple. When the railway track was passing close by, a station should be constructed at Punaura Dham. to facilitate devotees as well as the people coming here. Punaura Dham is very important from the point of view of religious faith, cultural heritage and tourism. The government has approved a large amount for its redevelopment. People are extremely excited about the foundation stone laying ceremony of the grand and divine temple of Mata Sita on Friday at Punaura Dham. Earlier on September 22, CM Nitish Kumar had written a detailed letter to PM Modi, urging him to enhance road and rail connectivity to Punaura Dham. In addition to road connectivity, the CM has also appealed to the PM to instruct the rail ministry to introduce a Vande Bharat train between Ayodhya and Sitamarhi to further facilitate pilgrimage to Punaura Dham. Meanwhile, Bihar gets another Amrit Bharat Express train between Delhi and Sitamarhi via Kanpur, Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Bagaha and Raxaul. The train will be flagged off by Union home minister Amit Shah through video conferencing on Friday. Currently, Sitamarhi is already connected by train number 15557/15558 Darbhanga-Anand Vihar Terminal-Darbhanga Amrit Bharat Express. "Sitamarhi-Delhi Amrit Bharat Express train will be flagged off by Union home minister Amit Shah on 08.08.25 from Punaura Dham, Sitamarhi through video conferencing," said CPRO of East Central Railway Saraswati Chandra. Currently, four services of Amrit Bharat Express trains are running across Bihar. These are Darbhanga to Anand Vihar Terminal, Mumbai LTT-Saharsa, Rajendra Nagar Terminal to New Delhi, Darbhanga to Gomti Nagar and Bapudham Motihari to Anand Vihar Terminal.
