CS visits Madhubani to review border security
MADHUBANI, April 24 -- Bihar chief secretary (CS) Pratyaya Amrit chaired a high-level review meeting with top government officials, including DGP Vinay Kumar, in Madhubani to assess security arrangements and development issues in India-Nepal border areas, with focus on curbing illegal activities and improving inter-departmental coordination, officials said on Thursday.
The officials discussed concerns over circulation of counterfeit Indian currency, cyber fraud, illegal telecommunication activities, growing use of mule bank accounts and operation of fake companies. Amrit directed superintendent of police Yogendra Kumar to identify anti-social elements, conduct thorough investigations, ensure speedy trials and secure convictions.
While reviewing narcotics smuggling in the border belt, officials were instructed to identify traffickers and syndicates and initiate legal action. Emphasising the sensitivity of the India-Nepal border area, the CS said that all departments must work in close coordination and act promptly against unlawful activities, while intensifying surveillance in the vulnerable areas.
Amrit also ordered rigorous enforcement of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and an extensive anti-drug campaign in the region. District magistrate Anand Sharma said that a special anti-drug drive targeting synthetic and dry narcotics had been underway for the past five days. Nearly 1,000 kg of ganja worth around Rs. five crore was seized during the crackdown.
While studying the progress of Vibrant Village Programme (VVP-II), Amrit directed officials to fast-track implementation in 286 selected villages of Madhubani so they emerge as model settlements. He noted action against encroachments on government land within a 15-km radius of the border and appreciated coordinated efforts of district administration and other departments.
Officers of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) briefed the meeting attendees on border security measures. The CS called for active SSB participation and instructed them to intensify patrolling along the international border. Later, accompanied by senior officials, the CS visited Jaynagar Nepal Railway Station to inspect security arrangements and assessed passenger amenities....
