Couple killed guarding crops in Gaya district
KAIMUR, Dec. 27 -- A middle-aged couple was brutally killed by slitting their throats in Gaya Ji district on Thursday night, police said.
Police further said that the incident occurred outside Champi village, which falls under the jurisdiction of Sherghati police station of the district.
The deceased Pradip Yadav, 55, and his wife Keshri Devi, 50, a panchayat representative, were sleeping in a hut in the fields to guard their crops. Several farmers in the hilly forest area guard their crops at night to save from wild animals, police said.
On Friday morning when the couple did not return home at usual time and the repeated calls by their son Ravi Kumar on father's phone went unanswered, the family members reached the fields.
Seeing the bodies of the couple lying in a pool of blood with their throats slit, the family members started screaming loudly. People gathered and police were informed, the son said.
Sherghati station house officer Mohan Kumar, followed by assistant superintendent of police (ASP) Shailendra Singh and senior superintendent of police (SSP) Kantesh Kumar Mishra, reached the place with a dog squad and a forensic science laboratory team.
Police cordoned off the place of occurrence and sent the bodies for postmortem examination.
No family members indicated enmity but their daughter Rinki Kumari said that there was a dispute regarding the field the couple was guarding.
The SSP said that it was a preplanned murder but the motive was unclear.
A case is being registered and police are investigating the case from all possible angles....
