Cops shoot murder accused after he tries to escape from custody

The accused, identified as Anshu alias Divyanshu Singh, was taken to a spot where he had hidden a firearm used in the murder of sand trader Ramakant Yadav.
Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikeya K Sharma confirmed the incident. According to police, Divyanshu-arrested in Lucknow and brought to Rani Talab police station area-was taken to the Dhana-Nisarpura canal road during the probe.
"When police searched for the weapon used in the crime, the accused pushed the cops and tried to flee. Despite repeated warnings, he ignored them. Police then fired, injuring him in the leg. He was rushed to Bikram primary health centre and later referred to AIIMS," the SSP said.
Police recovered a country-made pistol and four live cartridges on his revelation. A fresh FIR has been lodged against him.
The SSP said that Divyanshu faces 11 criminal cases, including murder, attempt to murder, and violations of the Arms Act, registered with Rani Talab and Phulwari Sharif police stations.
