CM announces setting up of Physics & Sciences Univ
PATNA, June 29 -- Chief minister Samrat Choudhary on Sunday announced that the University of Physics and Sciences would be established in the Patna Science College campus.
The announcement came after his visit to Bihar's premiere college with top officials, including three alumni of the college.
He issued directions to officials for integrated development of the college during his campus visit on foot. He visited the administrative bloc, department of physics and the department of Geology. At present, Patna Science College imparts education in seven streams of science and three vocational courses.
"The university will be developed as an excellent centre for high-level education, innovation and cutting-edge research in the field of physics and science. Through this, world-class academic and research facilities will be provided to students and researchers," he added.
Recalling the glorious academic and scientific tradition of Patna Science College, the CM said that the State government aims to re-develop this historic institution as a nationally acclaimed institution in the field of research and innovation of science so that its old glory could be restored.
He directed the officials to prepare a detailed work plan for integrated development of the institution, which has fallen from grace due to a number of factors beyond infrastructure.
"Modern laboratories, research centres, advanced academic infrastructure and facilities of international standards will be provided so that Bihar could carve a niche for itself in the field of science and technology," he added.
The CM said that a team would soon visit to seeds the development needs of the college. "The basic infrastructure of the college would be strengthened and facilities of playground and hostels would be improved," he added.
Maintaining that the government was committed to improving quality of higher education, scientific research and innovation, he said the new University of Physics and Science should develop as a centre of excellence for researchers and students from across the country.
Centralised research facility is already under development on the Patna Science College campus for the last five years. While the building has come up with the funds from Rashtriya Uchchtar Shikha Abhigyan's (RUSA), funds for high-end multi-disciplinary equipment like Ultra Freezer, incubator, ultra pure water system, muffle furnace, ultra centrifuge with temperature control, fluorescence microscope with phase contrast, PCR machine, PE loop analyser etc. have been provided under PM Usha. He stopped near the department of physics to talk to the teachers. He asked them that he was all for quality education and would like fulfil what is required from the government.
Some of the students also aired their grievances about corruption in renovation of hostel buildings and also submitted a memorandum. Some of the research scholars also demanded some funds from the government in the form of scholarship or stipend during the research work.
Later, the CM also inspected the Patna Collegiate School and enquired about the arrangements there. During the inspection, he said that Patna Collegiate School has a glorious history and it would be developed as a model school....
