PATNA, Oct. 13 -- Union minister Chirag Paswan on Monday criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi after Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant declined a request by opposition leaders to meet him and submit a memorandum on alleged electoral irregularities and the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. "Justice is sought through a writ petition, not a memorandum," Paswan said, adding that the Supreme Court had already delivered its verdict on the SIR issue. He questioned the opposition's decision to take its protest to the streets after its arguments failed to find favour in court. He advised the leaders to approach the Supreme Court through a formal petition if they wanted judicial intervention, noting that the issue could be considered through the judicial process. Gandhi had also announced a march to the Supreme Court, bringing together opposition parties, youth and civil society groups to press their demands. The Congress has alleged that the SIR process could lead to the wrongful deletion of eligible voters, while the Election Commission's functioning has come under sustained criticism from opposition parties after a media expose about EC's functioning. Paswan's post sharpened the political exchange over the opposition's campaign against the SIR and its approach to the Supreme Court....
