Boy dies at residential school in Kaimur hills
BHABUA, April 19 -- A nine-year-old boy, enrolled in Class 2, was found dead at a SC/ST residential high school in Baragaon Khurd village of Kaimur district, 85km south of district headquarters Bhabua, police said on Saturday.
"Birla Kumar, son of Ram Kunwar Ram of Dahar village, allegedly fell from his hostel building's first floor around 4pm on Friday. He was rushed to the community health centre at Adhaura but he died en-route," an officer in the know of the matter said. The victim's family was subsequently informed.
The situation turned tense the next morning as the boy's family and a group of political activists arrived at the scene and launched a protest.
They sought compensation for the affected family and demanded strict action against the school management alleging gross negligence.
Deputy development commissioner (DDC) Divya Shakti, along with sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Amit Kumar, sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Aniket Amar and block-level officials, reached the spot and met the bereaved family members and activists.
During the meeting, the affected individuals told the administration that Birla had been "pushed down" and it was not an accident.
They also alleged that the students were not being looked after properly, adding that the management doesn't restrict them from leaving the school premises.
The officials assured them of a proper investigation, action and all possible help to the family. DDC Shakti also directed the school management to keep the hostel entry register updated with real time entry and exit of the children.
Police have cordoned off the incident site and collected scientific evidence. Officials also examined the CCTV footage and questioned the headmaster Suraj Kumar, teachers and security guard. Police were awaiting the post-mortem report.
SDPO Aniket Amar said that police will register an FIR in the matter after receiving a complaint from the parents. "After the meeting with the administrative officials, the victim's parents returned home to perform the last rites of their child," he added....
