BLO, cafe operator held for making voter ID cards fraudulently
BETTIAH, June 5 -- Harsiddhi police in Bihar's East Champaran on Wednesday arrested a Booth Level Officer (BLO) and a cyber cafe operator for allegedly colluding to fraudulently create voter identity cards over the past few months in the district, officials said.
Confirming the arrest, Harsidih's station house officer (SHO) Sunil Kumar said that the arrest of the Booth Level Officer Masjid Baitha of booth number 96 of Harsidih assembly area and cyber cafe operator Upendra Kumar were arrested from Harsidih following the registration of a first information report (case no 293/26) under section 318(4), 319(2) and 337(2) among others of BNS on the basis of the statement of Harsidih's block development officer (BDO) Gulshan Kumar.
"They are being interrogated and would be forwarded to jail shortly," said the station house officer.
The matter came to the light after the state election commission grew suspicious after 82 voters were created by the account of BLO within a few months only. Areraj DCLR and Harsidhi Assembly Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) It Chaturvedi noticed a large number of online applications being submitted continuously on the voter list portal.
"A preliminary inquiry revealed that the applications were being submitted from a cyber cafe and that the official ID of a Booth Level Officer (BLO) was being used in the process," said BDO Gulshan Kumar in his report.
Quoting the FIR, SHO Sunil Kumar said investigation also revealed that people who approached for inclusion of their names in the voter list were charged Rs.200 per application. Out of this amount, Rs.100 was given to the BLO and the remaining Rs.100 to the cyber cafe operator.
When contacted, the BDO said, "Further investigation into the matter is underway. The identities of the new voters are also being ascertained."...
