PATNA, July 23 -- A violent clash between BJP and Congress workers played out here on Wednesday as BJP took out a procession from Kurji hospital to Congress state headquarters, barely a few hundred metres away, to protest Rahul Gandhi's sit-in outside the PM Modi's residence in Delhi a day before. Supporters of both sides used lathis and attacked each other with stones, leaving many injured. Police had to resort to lathi charge to disperse protesters and bring the situation under control. "We were protesting peacefully when Congress people started attacking aggressively with sticks and throwing stones while we were protesting peacefully," said state BJP spokesperson Prem Ranjan Patel. On the other hand, state Congress spokesperson Asit Nath Tiwari said, "BJP workers and leaders tried to forcibly enter Sadaqat ashram and our supporters had only tried to resist them. We did not start any offensive action against them." ASP Komal Meena said, "Some BJP workers were trying to gherao Sadaqat Ashram premises, which led to a law and order situation." Meanwhile, student groups reportedly clashed with the police at various places in the state capital on Wednesday, in protest aganist the NEET paper leak, that led to injuries to several police personnel and well as protestors. CM Samrat Choudhary held a meeting with senior administrative and police officials and took stock of the situation later on Wednesday evening. Police have sounded an alert across the state to be vigilant of any untoward incident by anti-socials under the guise of protesters. Special forces have been deployed at sensitive places.
