Bihar's 'first' ANTF to combat drug networks
KISHANGANJ, May 12 -- To counter drug trafficking networks in the region, police in Kishanganj have constituted the state's first Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), officers said on Monday.
Police said the district, adjoining West Bengal and sharing its border with Nepal, has become a safe haven for traffickers. "ANTF will focus on intelligence-led operations, surveillance and strict legal action. This is the first anti narcotics task force in Bihar," SP Santosh Kumar said.
Kumar added, "Our focus is not only to arrest peddlers but also to eliminate the network from its roots by launching crackdown on suppliers, financiers and the kingpins. The task force plans to implement awareness drives, a public helpline and offer rehabilitation support for addicts."
The SP exhorted people to help the police in their campaign. The ANTF consists of 12 trained police personnel and will function under supervision of sub divisional police officer (SDPO) Manglesh Kumar Singh. Inspector Raju has been appointed as the in-charge of the task force....
