DANAPUR, Oct. 25 -- As part of the 31st Biennial Conference and 15th Reunion of the Bihar Regiment, with the refrain "Once a Bihari, always a Bihari" a solemn wreath-laying ceremony was held at Veer Smriti Sthal, at Bihar Regimental Centre (BRC), Danapur, on Saturday. The ceremony was a heartfelt tribute to the brave soldiers of the Bihar Regiment who laid down their lives in the service of the nation, upholding the highest traditions of courage, sacrifice and devotion to duty. A particularly poignant moment of the ceremony was the special tribute paid at the statue of the late Lieutenant General Kulwant Singh Mann, former Colonel of the Bihar Regiment (CoBR). An illustrious soldier and an inspiring leader, General Mann occupies a distinguished place in the history of the Bihar Regiment. Having commenced his military career with 3 BIHAR in 1960, he went on to make remarkable contributions to the Regiment and the Indian Army. During the Indo-Pak War of 1971, while serving with 10 BIHAR in the Eastern Theatre, he demonstrated exceptional courage and tactical acumen during the historic Battle of Akhaura. His contribution to the Regiment's growth was equally significant, as he raised 12 BIHAR and became its first Commanding Officer, laying a strong foundation for the battalion's future achievements. General Mann subsequently served as the 6th Colonel of the Bihar Regiment from November 10, 1990 to November 1, 1996. Through his professional excellence, distinguished service and exemplary leadership, he rose to the prestigious appointment of the 25th Director General of Infantry at Army Headquarters. His outstanding service to the nation was recognised with the Param Vishisht Seva Medal and the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, reflecting his exceptional commitment to the profession of arms and the highest traditions of military service. "Though General Mann is no longer among us, his legacy continues to live on in the hearts and minds of the soldiers of the Bihar Regiment. His life and service remain enduring examples of professional excellence, selfless dedication, discipline and unwavering loyalty to the Regiment. His ideals continue to inspire generations of soldiers to uphold the honour, dignity and glorious traditions of the Bihar Regiment," said a senior army official. The ceremony was graced by Major General Jai Singh Bainsla, CoBR, Lieutenant General Akaash Johar, Major General Kamaldeep Jaspal and Brigadier Rakesh Kumar Bora, Commandant of the BRC. Former Colonels of the Regiment, former Commandants, senior military officers, Commanding Officers of various battalions and Subedar Majors were also present. Major General Jai Singh Bainsla, Lieutenant General Akaash Johar, Major General Kamaldeep Jaspal and Brigadier Rakesh Kumar Bora paid their respects to the distinguished General, remembering his exceptional leadership, invaluable contributions and enduring legacy within the Regiment. The Bihar Regiment has a distinguished legacy rooted in valour, sacrifice, discipline, camaraderie and unwavering service to the nation. The wreath-laying ceremony was not merely an act of remembrance; it was a reaffirmation of the timeless regimental values that bind generations of soldiers together and inspire them to serve the nation with honour, courage and dedication. The 31st Biennial Conference and 15th Reunion of the Bihar Regiment is a landmark occasion to celebrate the Regiment's rich heritage, strengthen the bonds of fellowship between serving personnel and veterans, and pass on its glorious traditions to future generations. Above all, it stands as a tribute to the enduring spirit of the Bihar Regiment - a spirit defined by selfless service, unflinching courage, regimental pride and an unbreakable bond of brotherhood....
