PATNA, Sept. 29 -- Bihar police, along with government railway police and Prohibition and State Narcotics Control Bureau (PSNCB) launched a drive on the directive of principal secretary, home department, to strengthen law and order, effective control on illicit liquor and drug trade and prompt action on sensitive criminal activities, an official said on Monday. Authorities checked 47,718 vehicles, fined 3,660 for violations, and collected Rs.56 lakh in penalties. Around 110 vehicles were seized during the drive. On the criminal enforcement front, police arrested 736 wanted individuals and successfully executed 116 warrants.. Officials said 29 people were arrested in drunk state. Police have seized 1,169 litre IMFL, 3483 litre country made, 16 grams of smack, 3.17 grams of heroin and 3.37 kg of ganja. Under the supervisions of range IGs/DIGs/SSPs and SPs an one hour special operation between 09:00 pm and 10:00 pm, prompt action was taken by conducting extensive patrolling across the state. During the operation, vehicle checking, arrest of accused, execution of warrants, action against illicit liquor and drugs were taken in various districts including Patna, Nalanda, Gaya, Aurangabad, Nawada, Jehanabad, Rohtas, Bhojpur, Buxar, Muzaffarpur, Vaishali, Sitamarhi, Motihari, Saran and Siwan. The GRP also checked 240 vehicles arrested nine accused and excute a warrant against one people. The GRP also recovered 55.3 litres of country made liquor, 205 litres of IMFL, six mobile phones and two knives. However, the PSNCB inspected over 150 cigarette and tabbacoo shops during the drive.
